Sustainably

better

Ecological? You Bet! REACH, CE, GWP, GUT, PRODIS, EPD and C2C – quite a few abbreviations, not to mention quite important ones.

Because they all have a common purpose: With their standards, specifications, labels and certifications, they ensure that products are more environmentally friendly. For ANKER, they therefore point the way to making our textile floorings even more sustainable.

As we see it, sustainability isn't just about complying with environmental protection regulations. We take a long-term view of the matter. As a result, we are constantly working to improve the quality and functionality of our textile floorings. Because, if the quality is good, the carpet lasts a long time and works in the long term – that itself means a lot of savings, for example, in regard to working time, money and resources.

We use as few new raw materials as possible for our carpets, preferring to rely more on recycled materials.

We only use high-quality materials as a matter of principle. Wool from New Zealand, for example. This type of wool is the best quality for our woven fabrics. Our tufting yarns are made from Econyl® – 100 percent recycled polyamide. As we also use solution-dyed yarns, our carpets are not only UV-resistant and therefore color-fast – they are also robust and hard-wearing. As well as durable: they easily last 15–20 years. Woven fabrics with Econyl® yarn can last 20–30 years. All in all, that alone makes our floor coverings sustainable.

If our carpets do need to be replaced, the pile layer can be reprocessed into Econyl®.

That's already great. We are also working on ensuring that the back coating and intermediate layer can also be recycled In materials, methods and manufacturing processes. We have already achieved this with Haptura – our first Cradle to Cradle Gold* certified collection. And what does that mean? The recognized standard certifies that the carpet is environmentally friendly, resource-saving and fully recyclable.

That's just the beginning, however: Other collections are being converted to a sustainable circular economy, and we have already implemented the most feasible solution for the aviation sector at present with Airlight® Eco.

Safe Constituents

With all our textile floorings, we pay particular attention to their constituents and materials in order to make sure that VOCs, DEHP and other harmful substances are not used in the first place and that CO₂ emissions are reduced.

To this end, we comply with the standards of GUT and the CE marking – and therefore with REACH, as well. The reason is that products bearing the GUT label must generally do without all substances listed under REACH. As a result, we have PRODIS numbers for our textile floorings. Because only successfully tested and proven low-emission carpets receive them, especially with regard to harmful SVHCs, as well as phthalates and plasticizers.

The components of our carpets can be found in the respective environmental data sheets and EPDs. We have prepared the environmental product declarations in accordance with EN 15804 and have had them validated by a neutral body. They are also registered with the Institut Bauen und Umwelt e.V. (IBU) (Institute for Construction and the Environment) in Berlin and on the ECO platform. They are therefore are valid throughout Europe.

Incidentally, we update the EPDs regularly – after all, we are also constantly and sustainably optimizing our textile floorings.
