REFERENCE REPORT

Deutsche Rentenversicherung Stralsund, Germany

ANKER Referenz Deutsche Rentenversicherung Stralsund

A Splash of Color Instead of Bureaucratic Gray: Insurance and administration are anything but dull or monotonous, as demonstrated by the Deutsche Rentenversicherung (DRV) Bund (German Pension Insurance (DRV) Bund) in Stralsund.

The exterior impresses with timelessly modern architecture, while the interior features a thoughtfully designed environment complemented by a carpet: PEP by ANKER.

The DRV Bund is the largest of Germany’s 16 pension insurance providers, serving over 34 million insured individuals and retirees domestically and abroad from five locations. It also oversees general responsibilities for all providers, including finance, public relations, and statistics. The Stralsund location supports the needs of approximately 8 million insured individuals. Here, a team of about 1,500 employees offers guidance on pensions and rehabilitation, assists with problem-solving, and provides information on account clarifications, forms, and applications.

To create an open, welcoming atmosphere despite the large number of required spaces, the architects at knaus mertes architekten conceived a striking landmark instead of a compact 90,000 m² structure. The DRV site consists of two four-story, angled building segments featuring a total of nine "arms." These main wings are connected by a light-filled atrium spanning the entire height of the building. This central atrium serves as the primary entrance area, a space for interaction, and a transitional hub between wings, enhanced by surrounding galleries, staircases, and connecting walkways.

A carefully planned concept of violet and blue zones ensures structure and orientation throughout the expansive building. These zones feature a cohesive design across all hallways and corridors, encompassing doors, frames, signage, and flooring. For the latter, ANKER’s tufted PEP carpet (colours 306 and custom colour 10B) has been the choice for 25 years. Renowned for its durability and resilience, the fine frisé-velour carpet harmonizes seamlessly with the ambiance of the 78,000 m² office space, adding vibrant accents to the administrative environment.
