REFERENCE REPORT

Museum Rotes Haus Monschau

ANKER Referenz Museum Rotes Haus Monschau

The Museum Rotes Haus in Monschau is not only one of the significant monuments of cultural, social, and economic history in the Aachen-Liège region …

… as the former residential and business house of cloth manufacturer Johann Heinrich Scheibler, it is equally a testament to the pre-industrial cloth-making trade and the living culture of the early 19th century: From furniture to floor coverings, the house is furnished true to the original. ANKER has been designing, producing, and supplying the carpets and design rugs for the staircase and individual salons since 1909.

Built around 1765, the Rotes Haus still reflects the styles of Rococo, Louis XVI, and Empire today. For the reconstruction and preservation of the furnishings, special attention is also paid to the carpets and rugs. The rugs in the salons, each measuring 4.5 × 4.0 meters, are designed according to historical models and harmoniously coordinated with the respective room design: Base accents that match the colors of the walls and patterns corresponding to the furniture determine the individual designs.

Since modern requirements of a museum had to be met alongside historical authenticity – with around 20,000 visitors per year – it was necessary to optimize the dirt resistance of the textile floor coverings. To achieve this, the particularly robust and durable PERLON RIPS was used to cover the stairwell. The textile floor coverings thus take into account contemporary demands while preserving the special flair of the patrician house.

"Through careful color coordination directly on-site, we were able to develop designs that harmonize perfectly with the historical room concept. The improved dirt resistance of the carpets enables us to protect the cultural heritage while interpreting the original design in a contemporary way."
